Projects sometimes can have issues which arise which are politically motivated or when the project will come into direct sight of the general public. Systems such as the NHS, tax credits, Olympic computer systems, animal testing and transport software will come under direct scrutiny of the public. When these projects go wrong the national papers will, undoubtly, report it and put the developing company in a negative light.

The question that the developer needs to ask is if the potential positives out weigh the possible negative publicity. Accenture, a very well known developer, pulled out of the NHS system as they were unwilling to accept the political fallout that the system was generating. Although debatable where the blame should go in this example the result is the same. They pulled out as they were fearful of their reputation being damaged.
